UK plugs explained
The UK uses type G plugs: three flat pins, 230 volts, 50 Hz. Most phone and laptop chargers work at 230V — check the label for “100–240V”.
- Sockets have a switch. Turn it on, or nothing will charge.
- Hair dryers and straighteners from other countries may need a converter, not just an adapter.
- One extension lead with USB ports means you need only one adapter.
The weather
Birmingham is mild but often grey and wet. It rarely snows for long, but wind and rain make it feel colder. Layers work best.
| Month | Day | Night | What to wear |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 7°C | 1°C | Waterproof jacket, thermals, hat and gloves |
| April | 13°C | 4°C | Light jacket and umbrella |
| September | 19°C | 10°C | Jumper for evenings, umbrella |
